The event opened with a heartfelt presentation by Facility Manager Maritsa Naudé, who took guests on a visual and emotional journey through the history of the Woodlands Recovery Unit. She reflected on where the unit began, how it has grown, and the many people who shaped its evolution over the past decade.
Maritsa expressed deep gratitude to the multidisciplinary team, acknowledging their dedication, compassion, and commitment to patient‑centred care. She also thanked Mondia Health leadership for their vision and unwavering support, a partnership that made the unit’s growth and impact possible.
Her message set the tone for a day rooted in appreciation, reflection, and renewed purpose.
Following Maritsa’s opening, CEO Marisa Henderson shared a powerful message about how mental health continues to evolve — and how health services must evolve with it. She spoke about the responsibility of modern healthcare organisations to remain adaptive, innovative, and deeply human in their approach.
Marisa also shared a personal moment of connection, reflecting on how she began her career at Mondia as an Occupational Therapist. Her journey illustrated not only her commitment to the field, but also the heart and history embedded in the organisation.
Following the CEO’s opening, Dr Palesa Nondabula delivered a heartfelt address on the meaning of hope and the courage it takes to rebuild one’s life. She spoke about recovery as a deeply personal journey, one that requires honesty, support, and the willingness to believe that healing is possible, even when the road feels long.
Her message reminded everyone present that recovery is not only about becoming substance‑free, but about becoming whole again.
One of the most moving moments of the day came from a former patient who recently celebrated five years of sobriety. He shared openly about the challenges, setbacks, and victories that shaped his journey, emphasising that recovery is rarely a straight line.
His message was simple, honest, and deeply resonant: Choose yourself. Choose recovery for you, not for anyone else. That choice, he said, is what carried him through the hardest moments and continues to guide him today.
Guests were taken on a reflective journey through the history of the Woodlands Recovery Unit, from its early beginnings to its growth into a trusted centre for addiction treatment and mental health support. The celebration honoured the countless individuals who have walked through our doors seeking help, as well as the dedicated professionals who have supported them with compassion and expertise.
The event also created space for connection, gratitude, and celebration, acknowledging the many lives touched and transformed over the past ten years.
